XML-based

When you want to be able to publish the same content to different media in different formats, content needs to be separated from layout. This is done via XML (eXtensible Markup Language). XML is an open standard that is not proprietary to a specific vendor. It allows authors to concentrate on content. It makes the layout of your different publications consistent and uniform.

The SDL Structured Content Technologies Solutions are entirely XML-based, allowing you to:

• store all content in XML
• integrate with leading XML authoring tools
• manage links and hyperlinks between components
• accommodate conditional publishing
• burst in and out of modular documents

API and Web Services enabled

Other applications such as CRM applications, product configurators, spare parts systems, etc. can easily be integrated with the SDL Structured Content Technologies CCM Solutions through its API. The API is Web Services-enabled which allows for remote access of these applications.

These Web Services can also be used to create smart XML authoring clients. Smart XML authoring clients bring all functionalities right into your author's favorite tools.  Therefore, authors and other users don't need to learn a new application, and can begin enjoying the benefits of a CCM solution more rapidly. Moreover, because these smart clients are Web Services-based, your authors can work from remote locations.
